BUiD Welcomes Hugh Martin as its New Registrar and Chief Administrative Officer

Hugh Martin joins The British University in Dubai as the Registrar and Chief Administrative Officer.

The British University in Dubai since its establishment in 2003, has witnessed an exponential growth in student numbers for the Masters and Doctoral programmes, Research projects, Publications, Corporate Trainings and its ever-increasing Community Outreach Activities.Hugh Martin joins BUiD at a very crucial time where he will need to play a vital role in supporting BUiD Council Members and the Vice-Chancellor in leading the University to achieve its short and long-term plans.
The University recently announced the launch of Undergraduate Programmes; it has plans of building on its success to deliver equally high-quality UG programmes as per   British Higher Education standards with the concentration on research-led education.  

His vast work experience in Higher Education sector in a Senior Management role at leading UK Universities, and also the private sector made him the right choice for this position here at BUiD. 

Hugh has worked in Higher Education for over 20 years, as the Executive Officer at the University of St Andrews, the Head of Governance at the University of Bristol, the Chief of Staff at the London School of Economics, and an Associate Lecturer at The Open University. His most recent post before coming to the UAE was the University Secretary at the University of Bedfordshire. From 1988-97 he worked at WHSmith, latterly as their Head of Customer Relations.

He has a BA and MA from the University of Oxford, and an MLitt from the University of St Andrews; he is currently working on his PhD.

He is a published poet and has been an Associate Lecturer with The Open University since 2004, teaching Arts and Creative Writing courses.
Hugh is actively involved in external networks: he is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Educators, and is a Non-Executive Director of Vanavevhu - Children of the Soil, a charity based in the USA and UK which provides Zimbabwe's child-headed households with food, healthcare, and education; he has also been the Chair of the Academy Council at Oasis Brightstowe Academy in Bristol.
