His Highness Sheikh Sabah Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of Kuwait honoured the winners of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences Awards in a ceremony held at Al Bayan Palace on 21 December 2016.
Dr. Amira Husein Traish, graduate of The British University in Dubai, won the first place in the Anwar Al-Nouri Award for Best Thesis in Education. The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) was chosen to represent the Anwar Al-Nouri Philanthropic Trust in the pursuit for further advances in knowledge. The recently agreed Anwar Al- Nouri Prize is set to reward the best thesis in education in the Arab world every 2 years.
Dr. Amira was the first winner of the Award on her EdD Thesis “A Comparative Analysis of Proficiency Scores of University Students in the United Arab Emirates: The Effectiveness of Using a First Language When Teaching a Second Language in a Reading Class”.
Dr. Amira said: “It’s a great honour to be with fellow researchers and academics in an event that recognizes Arab talents and scholars. This in itself will motivate not only us to do more in the future but also those aspiring Arab students to strive for more and take pride in our culture. As I explored Dr. Al Nouri’s long list of marked achievements I frequently encounters descriptions of him as educator, entrepreneur and visionary”.
