Dissertation or Research Project

After the completion of the required modules for each project pathway you will choose a dissertation or research project to complete your course. Dissertation and research project topic must be related to the discipline of the degree sought. The dissertation is a substantial piece of research work in a specific area of project management. The dissertation is supervised individually and assessed on the basis of a final report between 20,000 to 40,000 words. The research project will be based on a research or development/application topic of industrial and scientific relevance in the area of project management. The project will be carried out either in the university setting or at the work placement approved by the course director

Entry Requirement


To join the programme you must have :

  • A relevant Bachelors degree equivalent to an Upper Second Class honours or with a good GPA (3 or above) from a university that is accredited by Ministry of Education - Higher Education Affairs in the United Arab Emirates. 
  • English Language Proficiency: All applicants whose first language is not English are required to submit original evidence of his/her English language proficiency. This evidence should consist of a score of at least 6.0 IELTS/TOEFL 550*/TOEFL iBT 79-80*, or its equivalent.
  • Applicants must demonstrate evidence of basic knowledge and understanding of project management principles. To help you meet this requirement, BUiD is providing access to an internationally recognised online course - the Association for Project Management (APM) Introductory Certificate. Successful completion of this course will be accepted as evidence of basic knowledge and understanding of Project Management principles. The registration fee for this course is AED 875. This amount will be offset against the tuition fee for the MSc programme. Your login details will be sent upon payment or evidence of payment.

Each applicant has to submit an official transcript of any degrees earned and of any other credit earned from a higher education institution. This can be a copy formally certified by the applicant’s institution rather than the original degree certificate. If appropriate, a certified translation of the degree into English has to be supplied with the application. If the applicant is still studying or is awaiting results, admission is not formally confirmed until acceptable evidence of the awarding of his/her degree has been supplied.


*TOEFL Conditions:

  • While registering with ETS for iBT or with Amideast for ITP TOEFL, please quote BUiD's TOEFL code 0168.
  • Internet (iBT) - test scores should be sent to BUiD directly by ETS.  
  • Paper-based ITP  TOEFL are accepted by the administering institution only. Only those administered by AMIDEAST Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah will be accepted if it is sent by Amideast to BUiD directly. 


Conditional Admission

A student with a GPA of 2.5 to 2.99 will be conditinally admitted upon the programme tutor approval. A student with a GPA of 2.0 with least one year relevant work experience after graduation and a IELTS score of 5.5 (TOEFL 530, 71 iBT), or its equivalent in a standardized English language test approved by the Ministry of Education - Higher Education Affairs may be provisionally admitted to a Master’s programme.

  • The student achieves a 6.0 IELTS/TOEFL 550/TOEFL iBT 79-80 or its equivelant by the end of the first semester.
  • The student takes maximum of 2 modules in the first semester.
  • Student must achieve a minimum grade of "C" in the first three modules taken.


PG Diploma and Exit Awards

Students may initially register for PG Dip or MSc at any time. Students registered for the PG Dip may apply to transfer to the MSc at any time. Exit awards may be recommended by the Board of Examiners to students who do not complete the award for which they are registered, for example PG Dip or PG Cert in the case of MSc and PG Cert in the case of PG Dip.
