Call for Papers

The BUiD Doctoral Research Conference (2019) invites all doctoral students to submit their conference papers, research proposals or posters 15th April 2019.

This conference call is open to all BUiD postgraduate students.

This fourth conference is an opportunity to represent your chosen disciplines with an emphasis on academic excellence based on research, discovery, innovation and collaboration with government and industry. The conference will feature plenary and interactive break-out sessions designed to support students at all levels of postgraduate study.

The conference will be attended by academics from the Concordat Alliance of UK universities and by members of the BUiD Council.

Submission Options:

RESEARCH PROPOSAL – REQUIREMENT FOR RM3 STUDENTS

All RM3 students are required to present their Research Proposal during the conference. The purpose of this activity is to complement previous work and support proposal defense. This is not a comprehensive or full academic paper but an opportunity for students to receive feedback on their thesis design, structure and plan. RM3 registered students can submit their Assignment 5 – Doctoral Research Proposal for this. Feedback from UK partners will support development and progression.

Students will submit a 2-4-page proposal document including and outlining the following areas:

  1. Proposed topic/working title
  2. Keywords
  3. Problem statement (Abstract)
  4. Rationale for the study
  5. Aim and purpose of the study
  6. Research questions/hypothesis
  7. Theoretical underpinning
  8. Methodology
  9. Timeline

During the conference, RM3 students will have 15 minutes to present their Research Proposals. PowerPoint slides can be used for this purpose. There is no fixed template for the PowerPoint presentation but all the elements in the list above must be addressed.

OPEN CALL FOR ACADEMIC PAPERSAll

postgraduate students are encouraged to submit and present an academic paper.

In order to have your paper considered for presentation, please submit the following:500-word abstract outlining:

o Research topic
o Research question
o Significance of the study
o Theoretical underpinning
o Methodology and approach o Expected outcomes

Upon successful presentation of your paper at the conference, students will be invited to submit a full paper for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings or potential publication. Templates for full paper submission will be available in due course.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS

Attendees will benefit from opportunities to interact with the emerging community of practice at BUiD, in addition to gaining recognition, experience and an important addition to the academic CV.

Awards will be presented in the awards ceremony for the best paper and best poster.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: April 15th 2019
