BUiD hosts a public lecture on Fire Safety in Buildings

On 4 February 2020, BUiD hosted a public lecture titled ‘Fire Safety in Buildings: Getting It Right’ by Professor Ali Nadjai, Director of Fire Safety Engineering Research Technology Centre- University of Ulster. In his lecture, Prof Nadjai explained how building’s envelope performs a variety of tasks – in addition to providing physical security and protection from heat, cold, rain, irradiation, wind, glare, fire and noise, the envelope also sets the conditions for monitoring and control systems to regulate the interior climate, and ensure the wellbeing and safety of the building.  In addition, he highlighted the importance of research and education in developing innovative new smart materials and fire design solutions for buildings capable of reducing energy demands as well as providing excellent fire performance.
