BUiD Hosts Project Management Postgraduate Research Symposium Focused on AI, Sustainability & Industry 5.0
The British University in Dubai has organised and hosted the Project Management Postgraduate Research Symposium with the theme Project Transformation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Technology Sustainability and Industry 5.0 Leadership on Saturday 24 January 2026.
The Symposium was organised in collaboration with IPMA Dubai Blockchain Centre and Al Geemi Contracting Company as the Gold Sponsor.
This symposium brought together leading academics, industry experts, and postgraduate researchers for a full day of knowledge exchange, discussion, and networking.
A series of keynote and invited presentations were delivered from leading universities and professional organisations. Topics covered cutting-edge issues such as digital transformation in project settings, sustainability-driven strategies, and the integration of advanced technologies into project practices.
Speakers included:
Waseem Haider (PMI UAE), focusing on sustainability and Industry 5.0,
Dr. Eleni Papadonikolaki (TU Delft), exploring the digital and green transition paradox,
Prof. Alex Opoku (University of Sharjah) on aligning business strategies with sustainable development goals,
Dr. Ilias Krystallis (UCL, UK) on AI capabilities in professional services, and
Dr. Tarila Zuofa (University of Wisconsin Parkside), addressing modern sustainable project management.
In addition to presentations, the programme featured a panel discussion debating the implications of artificial intelligence in project environments — weighing its potential opportunities against associated risks. Panel participants included BUiD’s project management alumni.
