The participants will be provided with training focused on the areas addressed by the IELTS test (Listening – Reading – Writing – Speaking). The specific topics that will be addressed for each strand/skill include: duration and format, test parts, question types, marking and assessment, examples of actual test questions and practical sessions.
Improve the trainees listening, reading, academic writing and reading skills
Develop test strategies and the handling of test question types particular to the IELTS test.
Helping the trainees hit the test scores/bands they target
Listening Skill: Information about the listening test format and duration; listening preparation materials from a variety of sources; Notetaking techniques; various question types
Reading Skill: Information about the reading test format and duration; skimming and scanning techniques; discussing text difficulty and the types of questions; time management and distribution
Writing Skill: Writing test format and duration; Technical writing; writing about visual information (maps, charts, etc.); specific task structure; supporting an argument; writing argumentative and opinion essays; language mechanisms (grammar, spelling, punctuation); timing
Speaking Skill: speaking test format and duration; speaking about familiar issues; timed continuous speaking strategies; two-way discussions

Prof. Christopher Hill has worked in international higher education since 2008; spending 9 years in Malaysia and 7 in Dubai. Christopher is a Visiting Professor National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, an IC Global Fellow, OBHE Associate, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Specialist for the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, an Adjunct Researcher for the Higher Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan and External Examiner for the University of Birmingham in Dubai.
Prof. Hill’s research interests include TNE; online learning; and the development of international education and the student experience. Projects include enhancing university links between Thailand and the UK; developing guidelines for TNE in the Philippines; designing a strategic framework for higher education reform in Pakistan; developing PhD supervisors and research capacity in the Kurdistan region of Iraq; evaluating student employability and skill development in Sub Saharan Africa; and supporting internationalization of teaching and learning and the provision of EMI at key institutions in Taiwan. Prof. Hill hosts the Think Education podcast that provides a platform for reflection and discussion on research practice and teaching and learning within higher education.
Emad A. S. Abu-Ayyash is an associate professor of education/TESOL at the British University in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He achieved his Ph.D in Education/TESOL from the British University in Dubai, in 2016, his M.A. degree in translation from Yarmouk University, Jordan in 2007 and his B.A. degree in English literature and linguistics from Yarmouk University, Jordan in 1996. His research interests and publications include discourse analysis, teaching and learning, translation, assessment, online education and TESOL. He has 14 years of experience in teaching IELTS and designing IELTS training materials.
