BUiD launches its Centre for Research in Digital Education

On 25 January 2020, BUiD launched its Centre for Research in Digital Education (CRDE). This is the UAE’s first non-profit, research centre, which focuses solely on ‘Digital Education’ within the Middle East. The CRDE aims to:

  1. conduct empirically sound research on Digital Education, which results in meaningful, academic publications, that can be used by relevant stakeholders in the UAE and the Middle East;
  2. provide special support to UAE-based PhD students, who are conducting doctoral-level research projects about Digital Education;
  3. disseminate knowledge locally by hosting research seminars and academic conferences at BUiD on topics pertaining to Digital Education.

The CRDE inauguration started with speeches by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullah Alshamsi and Dr. Tendai Charles, Director of the CRDE. Thereafter, the Centre hosted its first research seminar on the topic of ‘Digital Education in 2020’. Dr. Zubaida Shebani ,Associate Professor of Neuropsychology, University of Cambridge, delivered a talk titled “Blended Learning: Enhancing Education in the Digital Age”; and Ms. Linda Parsons ,Educational Technology Lead, Deira International School, delivered a talk titled “Beyond the platform: Five skills to teach our Digitally Divergent children before University”. The seminar was attended by educators from various schools and academic institutions in Dubai.
