Programmes / Masters and MBA Programmes / Master of Science in Sustainable Design of the Built Environment
Climate change and its impacts are an immediate global environmental concern. The built environment is a major contributor to carbon emissions and depletion of resources. In addition, the indoor environment within buildings has a major impact on the health, well-being and productivity of occupants. A more sustainable approach to design can be achieved using a combination of passive and active strategies utilising the latest knowledge, design, and modelling strategies. This will reduce energy needs, which in turn will reduce both local and global pollution and provide more comfortable and healthy indoor and outdoor living environments. The main aim of the Master of Science in Sustainable Design of the Built Environment programme is to provide design team members with the knowledge, skills and tools to enable them to undertake innovative approaches to sustainable design, integrating architectural and engineering solutions.
Sustainability of the built environment is of importance to both public and private sectors. This programme prepares graduates to take their place in this expanding field. Students will acquire different levels of knowledge and skills needed within the built environment. The programme is suitable for professionals in related fields such as architecture, building services, urban design, and interior design. It will also appeal to professionals from private consultancy business, construction firms, and government and regulatory institutions.
