BUiD’s Registrar and Chief Administrative Officer has been elected as a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts
Hugh Martin, Registrar and Chief Administrative Officer at The British University in Dubai, has been elected as a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts; he now becomes FRSA.
Hugh was nominated for the Fellowship by Professor Sir Deian Hopkin FRHS FRSA FCIBSE FCGLI, former Vice Chancellor of London South Bank University, former Vice Chancellor of the University of East London, former President of the National Library of Wales, and expert adviser to the First Minister of Wales.
The RSA is one of the world’s leading and older learned societies. It was founded in 1754 as the Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce and was granted a Royal Charter in 1847.

The RSA awards three medals – the Albert Medal, the Benjamin Franklin Medal, and the Bicentenary Medal. Previous winners have included Nelson Mandela, Sir Frank Whittle, and Professor Stephen Hawking.
RSA members are innovative contributors to human knowledge, as shown by offering rewards for the reduction of smoke emissions in 1770, and in the Oxford English Dictionary which records the first use of the term ‘sustainability’ in an environmental context in the RSA Journal in 1980.
