The Dean of the Faculty of Education gives a keynote speech at the World Down Syndrome Congress (WDSC) 2021

Professor Eman Gaad, the Dean of the faculty of Education, was one of the keynote speakers at the World Down Syndrome Congress (WDSC) 2021. The WDSC was hosted by The Emirates Down Syndrome Association in Dubai on 18-20 November 2021. In her speech titled, ‘Educating learners with Down Syndrome in regular classrooms: issues and challenges’, she focused on the current status and issues related to supporting those involved in the process of inclusive education for learners with Down Syndrome. International and local regulations were discussed. Important issues such as categorisation and diagnosis in light of the right-based approach were demonstrated. Professor Gaad also spoke at the closing ceremony and gave recommendations for the pathway to empowerment and employment for all people with Down Syndrome.

 

The WDSC, the largest global congress for people with Down syndrome, is a family based event and an opportunity to share and hear their inspiring success stories, the challenges facing people with Down syndrome, and to gain knowledge and experience about self- advocacy, empowerment and social inclusion.
