Short Bio

Professor Al-Malkawi joined The British University in Dubai in September 2016.  He is a Professor of Finance and Head of MSc & BSc Finance Programmes at the Faculty of Business and Law, The British University in Dubai, UAE. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Western Sydney, Australia. Prof. Al-Malkawi is a Certified Islamic Finance Executive (CIFE). He has worked in various capacities at different institutions in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Australia.

Prof. Al-Malkawi received several awards for excellence in research including 2019 Emerald Literati Award for Excellence: Highly Commended Paper Award, Faculty Recognition Award for Excellence in Research from King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia in 2012, 2013, and 2014.  He has also been awarded with Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing from two reputable journals published by Elsevier in 2017 and 2018. Recently, Prof. Al-Malkawi received 2019 Asian Education Leadership Award, Best Professor in Finance Studies.

He has published over 40 research papers in international journals and conference proceedings. Prof. Al-Malkawi serves as a referee for several international journals including Economic Systems; Emerging Market Finance and Trade; Business Ethics: A European Review; The European Journal of Finance; Economic Modelling; South African Journal of Economics; International Journal of Managerial Finance; Qualitative Research in Financial Markets, among others. His works have appeared in journals such as Economic Modelling; Research in International Business and Finance;  Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications; Managerial Finance; Business Ethics: A European Review; Humanomics; Journal of Emerging Market Finance; African Journal of Economic and Management Studies, and Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies. His research interests include Islamic finance, corporate governance corporate financial policy, financial economics, e-banking and applied econometrics.
