Fire Drill

The objective of a fire drill is to ensure that all building occupants, including staff, students, or residents, are familiar with the procedures to safely and efficiently evacuate the premises in the event of a fire or other emergency. Fire drills help ensure preparedness, enhance safety, and ensure that all systems work together during a real emergency.

 Key objectives include:

—  Safety Awareness: Educating people on how to react and behave during an actual fire emergency.

—  Evacuation Efficiency: Ensuring occupants can evacuate quickly and in an orderly manner using the designated escape routes.

—  Emergency Preparedness: Familiarizing staff and safety personnel with their roles and responsibilities during an emergency, including assisting others and managing evacuation.

—  Identifying Weaknesses: Testing the effectiveness of the fire alarm system, escape routes, and communication procedures to identify any issues or bottlenecks in the evacuation process.

—  Testing Firefighting Systems: Verifying those firefighting systems, such as sprinklers, fire extinguishers, and hose reels, are functioning properly and coordinating efficiently with alarm systems and emergency protocols.

—  Legal Compliance: Ensuring compliance with local safety regulations and building codes that require regular fire drills for safety certification.

Please follow the step-by-step evacuation procedure during the evacuation:

—  Walk calmly and quickly proceed to the nearest available and safe exit; DO NOT RUN.

—  Close all doors/windows behind you as you leave to confine the spread of fire.

—  DO NOT USE THE ELEVATOR!

—  Use only the exit stairway while exiting.

—  Do not congregate in or block access roads or entrances to the building that may be needed for emergency vehicles.

—  All personnel should know where primary and alternate exits are located, and be familiar with the various evacuation routes available.

—  Floor plans with escape routes, alternate escape routes, exit locations and Designated Evacuation Assembly Areas are posted across the building.

—  Assist disabled individuals in the office during evacuation; however, if there is any difficulty notify the same to the  Emergency Coordinator (EC)/ security.

—  While returning back to the building, assist the colleagues in preventing overcrowding of the elevators.

—  Emergency team will coordinate the evacuation procedure.
