Dr Nahia Mourad, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, co- published a research paper with Dr Georges Chamoun, titled, ‘Mathematical analysis and asymptotic predictions of chemical-driven swimming living organisms in weighted networks’ in the Computers & Mathematics with Applications journal.
The paper derives mathematical results that provide information on the behaviour, mechanisms, and strategies of living organisms, like bacteria, in their biological networks, specifically chemical-driven swimming. It uses network-theoretic approaches to transpose the coupled system from the Euclidean case to connected networks. This reveals key results about system stability and large-time behaviour. The paper also proves the convergence of cell densities towards a self-similar Gaussian solution of the heat equation. Numerical results are used to develop computational control and prediction of living organisms’ trajectories in networked flows.
